ABSTRACT

William Forsythe’s career is briefly outlined from its beginnings in high school rock-and-roll dancing through his stints in the Joffrey Ballet and Stuttgart Ballet. The first works made in Stuttgart led to a demand for his work as a free-lance choreographer in Europe and the United States in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. After his appointment as director, and later Intendant, of Ballett Frankfurt he formed a team of collaborating dancers and artists and created a repertory with which he has won international recognition.
