ABSTRACT

Greenwood Edward talks about the role of psychotherapy in a residential school and believes, the approach should be made in three steps: to classify the various institutions which includes under the heading of residential centers; to state the factors which make psychotherapy in guidance clinics somewhat different from that employed in residential centers; and to state the relationship between psychotherapy and the total program. The atmosphere for psychotherapy of a child in a clinic or with a private practicing therapist is somewhat different from that in a residential center. In a residential center the psychotherapy is part of the social atmosphere and of the total treatment program. Psychotherapy contains basic principles which are used by each psychotherapist in ways which express his orientation, training and personality. It is evident that the aims and goals of psychotherapy must be related to the total treatment program.
