The Story of Libraries in India book
Library development was placed on the agenda of nationalist movements and was accepted as the people's movement. It was not merely by coincidence that the annual meetings of the All India Public Library Association used to be held in conjunction with sessions of the Indian National Congress. Since education is a process of interaction between learners and information sources, the library serves as a learning resource center. Education itself has been continuously updated through new developments in information technology, thereby requiring libraries to keep up-to-date with modern technologies. The Indian National Scientific Documentation Center (INSDOC) in New Delhi, established in 1952 with technical assistance from UNESCO, is a premier science and technology (S&T) information organization in the country. INSDOC has introduced on-line information retrieval facilities for indigenous data bases and has launched programs for the creation of S&T data bases, network based on-line services, and a National Information Resource Center.
