ABSTRACT

The United States (US) remains biased in favour of Israel as it pursues its regional strategy. It is necessary, therefore to discuss the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in terms of the imperatives of both the Israeli state and the Palestinian Liberation Movement and their connections to US regional interests. The Gulf war took care of Iraqi "threats" to US interests and ended Lebanese civil war, which was a main destabilizing factor in the region. Israel was well placed to benefit from US control of the region. Egypt, too, had been a US ally since 1978 and served the US well, especially in sabotaging the Arab League efforts to thwart a US-led war against Iraq. Unilateralism is the description most bestowed upon US strategy since 2001. The goal of the neo-conservatives is to secure military domination by responding with force to any challenge to US strategy.
