ABSTRACT

Aging and its consequences have become a global issue. During the twentieth century, a demographic transition occurred in the more developed regions, which most likely will impact upon the less developed regions in the future.1 Israel’s population over 65, currently standing at 10 percent (still not old in comparison with other industrialized countries), has nevertheless undergone both relative and absolute growth over the last few decades. This trend is expected to continue in the next half-century.2
