ABSTRACT

Many of the concerns in America today focus on the issue of equal access to the opportunity structure that exists in the society. These concerns, then, drive the debates about who gets what in America. To be sure, the tumultuous debates surrounding Affirmative Action in the mid-1990s are rooted within the demise of many of the traditional resources that used to accrue to hard-working people. Over the course of several years, a number of important empirical studies have demonstrated the continued existence of problems that some athletes have when trying to break into the games they want to play. Some of the most important literature addresses the problems encountered when stacking or positional segregation is allowed to persist in major league baseball (MLB). Stacking is a discriminatory practice, set in place to keep the number of African Americans on the team low. Segregation is not supposed to be present in modem America.
