ABSTRACT

The Barack Obama presidency is having a profound impact on the social awareness or consciousness of the entire African Diaspora. This impact is due to the social and structural position of Africans within the Modern World System. The Barack Obama campaign for the presidency emerged at a politically and socially fertile time in the Black Atlantic community. The Black Atlantic community network will have strong networking advantages and challenges in relation to the War on Terror, the rise of virtual states, demography, and culture. Terrorist networks are increasingly trying to move the front for the War on Terror into Africa through networks of African Muslims and particularly in regions tense with religious conflict (Phamm). The penetration of terrorist networks into the Diaspora will present a challenge for the Black Atlantic community. For instance, because English is becoming the international business language of globalization, communication will become less of a barrier for the Black Atlantic community.
