ABSTRACT

The Purépecha (P’urhépecha) or Tarascan are an Amerindian group in west Mexico. Their territory is delimited by an ecological system formed by four areas: the Tarascan Plateau (including the main portion of Paricutín Volcano), Lake Pátzcuaro, La Cañada (a stream near the Zamora Valley) and Zacapu (toward the north of Lake Pátzcuaro).
