ABSTRACT

The state of Gujarat, situated along India’s northwest coast, consists of five major geographical areas: north Gujarat (deserts and mountains along the border with the state of Rajasthan), Kutch (adjacent to Pakistan), the Saurashtra Peninsula, Gujarat (centered around Ahmedabad and Vadodara), and south Gujarat (bordering the state of Maharashtra). Gujarati and Hindi are the primary languages spoken, with Marathi, Urdu, English, and tribal languages important in some areas.
