ABSTRACT

Theology in the twentieth century is marked by the rediscovery of the cosmic dimension of Jesus Christ, a theme forgotten for centuries in the history of Christian thought in the West. The cosmic theology, emerging also from the Chinese soil but in a very different context, was the child of half a century of political struggles in China and took shape during the encounter between Christianity and the Chinese Revolution. Some Christian thinkers naively believe that the essence of Christianity can easily be distilled from its cultural forms. Bishop K.H. Ting, the honorary President of the China Christian Council and the Three-Self Patriotic Movement, is probably the most important Church leader with Y.T. Wu during the period after the 1949 revolution.
