ABSTRACT

Jesus as a historical figure and as the object of Christian worship are interwoven into one unity. China has one of the longest histories and the oldest cultures in the world. There are many religions in China. Buddhism has a history of nearly 2,000 years, Daoism of over 1,700 years, and Islam of over 1,300 years. In the ancient period, Christianity had sought to penetrate China on a large scale at least four times. In the 1990s, the Chinese scholars’ view on Jesus changed a little. More books were published, but no big progress was made. The progress of Chinese scholars in their views on Jesus in the 1980s is based on the changing view of the Bible. To view Jesus as a historical figure and the founder of Christianity, is the view of modern scholars of history, including the view of the rationalist, the liberalist, and the modernist theologians in Christianity.
