ABSTRACT

Jesus is idolized at the expense of God the creator. The Christian church has often taught that to believe in Jesus is to disbelieve in what other religions teach about God and salvation. Faith in Jesus does not allow room for faith in God at work in human community outside the Christian community. The contradiction is obvious, but most Christians in Asia seem not to be bothered by it and see no need for grappling with it. The cross is the plot of an organized religion blinded by its own power and orthodoxy and unable to tolerate those deeply and sincerely religious persons eager to restore faith in the God of love and mercy.
