ABSTRACT

The Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong founded the Catholic newspaper Kung KaoPo(KKP) in 1928. It is one of the oldest periodicals in the religious field in Hong Kong. It can be considered a long-lasting periodical even when compared to lay publications. From the very beginning, KKP maintained “the Promotion of Catholic Doctrine” as its fundamental task. Theoretically speaking, its description of Jesus should have had a great influence on the Chinese people. This chapter presents an overall review of the contents of KKP from 1928 to 1930, so that one can analyze the image of Jesus promoted by KKP during that time. It discusses the influence of KKP on the development of the Church in China. During the process of understanding and interpreting the image of Jesus, the KKP writers added a lot of Chinese elements. Such elements did not appear in the Scriptures, but they did not contradict the Scriptures in any way.
