ABSTRACT
This chapter frames the kidnapping and death of Aldo Moro as a problem of communication, a problem of languages and ideologies that placed the Brigate rosse (BR) and Moro on either side of a psychological cage or prison. At the time of Moro's kidnapping, Valerio Morucci, a member of the strategic direction of the BR, was tasked with delivering Moro's letters to their political addressees. The political myopia of the BR in failing to perceive the change in Italian society is evident in the ideological dogmatism of Mario Moretti who rejected Morucci's efforts to initiate a dialogue on the potential for change in BR strategy. National and international contexts include: the crisis of the 1960s following the euphoria of the 1968 movement, the stagnation of the political and geopolitical situation caused by instability and by the political conflict between DC coalitions, and finally the paralysis of the Italian Communist Party (PCI).
