ABSTRACT
This chapter is adapted from remarks Professor Durrenberger made at the 2014 meeting of the Society for Applied Anthropology (SfAA) when he received the Society’s Malinowski Award. The speech was dedicated to Robert O’Brien, an anthropologist whose activism in the areas of environmental protection, workers’ rights, and LGBT issues distinguished his tragically brief career.
