Founding of a Monumentenwacht for Archaeological Heritage in Flanders (Belgium)

Monumentenwacht1 has been well established on the Flemish heritage scene for nearl y twenty years now as a group of six non-profi t associations. The umbrella organization, Monumentenwacht Vlaanderen, was founded in 1991. In the course of 1992, the fi ve provincial Monumentenwacht organizations were set up.2 The initiative was inspired by the Netherlands, where a national federation of provincial Monumentenwacht organizations had already been in existence since 1973.
