ABSTRACT

This is a heavily revised version of a paper entitled ‘ 15th-century Lute Music : the Evidence of the Sources ’ read as part of a symposium on ‘ The Lute and its Music up to 1550 ’ presented by the Lute Society on 29 January, 1977. Both the original and the revision owe much to Dr Ephraim Segerman who was liberal with his books, his references and his criticisms; much additional benefit was gained from a characteristically close reading by Dr Stanley Boorman, as also from the comments of Christopher Page and James Tyler.
