ABSTRACT

Problem finding, or the ways in which individuals identify and focus their creative tasks, has almost certainly fascinated much of humankind since the beginning of civilization. We wonder how great storytellers find the worlds of their imagination, how artists find images where none existed before, how scientists decide to investigate an idea no one else thought fruitful. My own curiosity about problem finding has centered on the processes used by children to choose their topics for art, writing, and scientific investigations.
