ABSTRACT

Following the panoramic view of the research into young children's musical behaviour and development, people look at how the inCanto project was put into operation. All children can learn to sing correctly, that is, to sing in tune according to the musical system of their culture. Elementary musical ability, singing, playing instruments and moving in time develop earlier, with respect to their peers, in children who live in a continual musical environment. The inCanto Project would like to gives the possibility of offering the child a gift, a treasure that cannot be consumed: the gift of musicality. The decision to the children with a musical adventure meant that, before settling on its formulation, people had to choose the areas of musical experience on which to focus, drawing on suggestions offered by the existing literature. Children assimilate the musical culture of their own environment, people went for repertoire that contained the musical syntaxes common in the various kinds of song.
