ABSTRACT

Music and singing were an integral part of the day, a lovely way to communicate with Andrea and let him recognize, appreciate and love music. The analysis of the video-recordings showed that, following the gestures that we interpreted as signs that the newborns had noted something different in the music, most of them returned to a state of quiet, even when the new song was rock music. The wait was rewarded: with the passing of days, the recourse to music, the listening to mother's songs or the recorded songs took on an almost magical role. The differences between listening to the mother singing and to recorded music were always statistically significant, except for the age range from zero to two months and from ten to 15 months. It is important to be aware that it is not only the mother speaking to the child that prompts vocal reactions.
