ABSTRACT

Editors’ note: Having heard Mr. Anthony Colón speak at the 2003 Brown University/ Annenberg Research Symposium on Educating English Language Learners, we were anxious to have the opportunity to discuss his ideas concerning school/community linkages further. Mr. Colón has a warm, pragmatic manner about him; he has years of experience, and there is much work to be done. But with these years of experience comes a wisdom and a temperance that seasons his pragmatism. We met Mr. Colón at the National Council of La Raza headquarters in Washington, D.C., in August 2004 to interview him in his office. When he arrived he was with his daughter, a young grade-school child, who was no stranger to the office. They were on their way to a summer vacation, but Mr. Colón had made the time for us to speak. Mr. Colón found an office for his daughter to work in while we conducted our interview.
