ABSTRACT

Recent research in cognitive science and information processing has identified and analysed many cognitive activities which provide insight into the mental manoeuvres that learners engage in when trying to increase efficiency and effectiveness of knowledge acquisition processes. These cognitive activities constitute the elements of a cognitive technology for the design of tasks information. Many of these findings suggest that enhanced knowledge acquisition and skill development can be obtained by effective management of cognitive resources. This paper provides an overview of the theoretical rationale for some of the elements of the cognitive technology together with discussion of selected empirical studies.
