ABSTRACT

This work is an ambitious undertaking that implements a unique effort combining education metrics and engineering simulation modelling. It is a package of a simple control engineering concept, a model of a learning process, and a computer simulation. This work ultimately develops a model by which one can gain a better insight into the possible dynamic behaviour of a learning system. The methodology used by this study is known as ‘system dynamics.’ It generally includes a qualitative and a quantitative phase. The qualitative phase is based on mapping the resource flows and interrelations of the learning system and converting the map to a simulation model. The quantitative phase is a quantitative computer simulation modelling using a purpose-built software. This phase is based on investigating the dynamic behaviour of the system to obtain a better understanding of how a learning system works, and applying some proposed changes to the model to improve the performance of the system. This paper describes the first stage of the study.
