ABSTRACT
Manchester is one of a select band of cities that have left their mark on the modern world and as the world’s first industrial city it is beyond compare. This paper looks at the dynamics of the first industrial city, an extraordinary city, which was a symbol of the new order and a model for society. It then considers how the concept of Manchester resonated around the world.
