ABSTRACT

Agriculture is the largest sector of the economy in Uzbekistan. Measured in terms of Gross domestic product (GDP), employment, and export potential, it is the leading sector and forms the basis of the entire national economy. The development in agriculture determines the well-being of 40 percent of the labor force, the condition for half of the industry and other sectors, the bulk of exports, and the resolution of key social and economic problems. The rate of economic growth and stability in Uzbekistan depend on implementing a complex of measures to transform the agrarian sector. The agrarian sector in Uzbekistan donates financial resources to the other sectors of the economy. Therefore, the reform of prices in the agrarian sector must also consider the government's ability to find alternative revenues for the state budget. The large-scale development of irrigation systems was, for a long time, the basis of agricultural development in the republic.
