Julia Serano has a PhD in biochemistry and molecular biophysics and is a researcher, writer, poet, musician, and activist. This selection is from her book Whipping Girl: A Transsexual Woman on Sexism and the Scapegoating of Femininity (2007). She is also the author of Excluded: Making Feminist and Queer Movements More Inclusive (2013), along with numerous other writings and publications.
