ABSTRACT

The typological classification of artefacts found in our sample of Early Anglo-Saxon graves used for this chronological study applies a range of different methods. The spearheads, seaxes and shield bosses are classified largely by dimensions, and ratios between specific dimensions, supplemented by details of form in the case of the shield bosses. Several typological groupings here adapt existing, carefully produced and evaluated, classifications of Anglo-Saxon or similar and broadly contemporary Continental types. The bead-types adhere closely to the scheme devised by Brugmann (2004).
