ABSTRACT

This chapter describes how a Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) grant, funded by the McCormick Foundation of Chicago, supported methodologies to improve implementation of the new rules governing the preparation of principals in the state of Illinois for selected principal preparation programs. The Principal Preparation Program Continuous Improvement Process (PPP CIP) Diagram helped the preparation program faculty focus on each of the component parts and the flow of information that would impact the continuous improvement of each. The PPP CIP Diagram was combined with the Logic Model, and seemed to work best in describing what continuous improvement involves for the teams. The logic model was a “big picture” look at the work, whereas teams wanted to get very granular with specific program components. The staff at Center for the Study of Education Policy developed a sample logic model that was given to the preparation programs to guide their work.
