ABSTRACT
This introduction seeks to clarify our understanding of the concept of transfer as a circulatory process allowing for adaptations and reinterpretations. It provides an overview of how this concept is used in a wide range of social sciences and argues in favour of a dialogue between disciplines with a view to gaining an enriched understanding of the transfer process. It also introduces the research questions addressed in the volume and provides a brief outline of its chapters.
