ABSTRACT

Critical thinking, together with communication, creativity, and collaboration is considered 21st-century skills, which are crucial for people to engage in an increasingly globalized world. It is clear that there is a need to develop students' thinking skills in subject areas and second language education is no exception. This chapter provides an overview of the “thinking” move in the field of English as a second/foreign language learning, with particular attention to critical thinking, creativity, and metacognition research. This chapter also serves as a discussion point of the book, providing a summary for each chapter and raising the key issues and outcome. The chapter finishes with suggestions on future research in “thinking” in second language education.
