ABSTRACT

This study looks at contemporary Uganda as an example of extreme reproductive injustice, with high fertility, high maternal and infant mortality rates, an epidemic of gender-based violence, patriarchal family systems, and high rates of HIV. The authors address critical questions using data from 33 semi-structured interviews with women in rural Uganda who volunteered to participate as peer-mentors in an international NGO-funded program designed to encourage family planning and women’s economic empowerment.
