ABSTRACT
This chapter reconstructs the arguments behind Locke’s various claims about the institution of marriage. It aims not only to explain the relevant text but also to make connections between Locke’s remarks on marriage and his larger philosophical commitments. Finally, it gives readers a sense of how Locke’s account of marriage has been taken up by feminist scholars.
