ABSTRACT
The chapter starts with an explanation of Stillingfleet’s motive for, and strategy in, his attack on Locke’s Essay. This leads into an analysis of some of the main philosophical differences revealed in the arguments of each participant in the Correspondence – differences that make it a valuable aid to understanding Locke’s philosophy and its motives.
