ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author discusses a disheartening professional experience at the hands of a Black woman who served in educational leadership. She speaks of one of many challenges the Black Community faces. However, social change can start with education as Black women mentor, support, and befriend one another. The alliance aims to cultivate networking among Black women and promote scholar-practitioners in educational leadership who serve for the development and implementation of sound educational policy, curriculum, and school governance. Black women experience racialized and gendered experiences in and outside of educational settings. These experiences contribute to feelings of isolation and disempowerment that adversely perpetuate competitive environments amongst Black women who hanker for professional and social validation at the expense of other Black women. When females in leadership degrade one another, they are contributing to the advancement of others and maintain systems that disallow the amelioration of Blacks in the workplace.
