ABSTRACT
Rheumatoid Arthritis is a disease where a rampant immune system attacks the body. Rather than protecting the health of the individual, the immune system attacks the synovium lining that surrounds the joints. When this occurs, fluid increases in the synovium lining, causing swelling and severe pain. The swelling is often referred to as a “flare-up,” which occurs in random joints throughout the body. Some students even met with the author privately and describe their own accessibility needs, their diagnoses, and are more interested in sharing their own experiences of feeling marginalized on campus. Students were informed that all course content would be subject to analysis. This included course analysis of student narratives present in assignments, emails, reflections, surveys, and discussions which were collected and documented throughout the semester. Society views disabilities in two ways; that they are either a nuisance or pitiful.
