ABSTRACT
Table 15.1 contains an example of the model’s processing of part of the SAINT text (Fig. 7.1 in the chapter in Part 1) studied earlier (Miller & Kintsch, 1980 1 ; the line numbers annotating this example are used in the discussion below. The model processes a text by allowing its knowledge sources to observe and operate upon the contents of its hypothesis structure; Table 15.1 then contains “reports” from the knowledge sources that describe the additions or modifications they have made to the hypothesis structure. This section is meant to illustrate the model’s processing; the model is described in detail in the preceding chapter.
