ABSTRACT

Big data refers to extremely large data sets that can be analyzed to reveal trends and patterns. Big data is formally defined as having three key characteristics: volume, variety, and velocity. In healthcare, there is a tremendous opportunity to use big data for predictive modeling. Big data will help in these types of projects, and support decision making. Predictive modeling is one form of decision modeling. Predictive modeling is completely aligned with the plan–do–check–act improvement methodology described earlier. Collaboration between organizations has been widely discussed between for-profit organizations that seek to work together toward common goals. Collaboration between different organizations is sometimes referred to as strategic alliance. Collaboration in a single organization is often referred to as teamwork. Theories behind the motivation and barriers to interorganizational collaboration help to describe why certain organizations choose to collaborate in the first place.
