ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses significant trends and the future of quality management. It provides recommendations for performance improvement professionals in the healthcare industry. Leadership of quality and organizations will need to have a much more strategic perspective on healthcare. Making an organization's performance data visible and transparent will become a role for quality and performance improvement management. The challenge for quality managers will be how to incorporate these new data into performance improvement programs as alternatives and process changes for services that need fixed. Performance improvement projects that once tended to focus only within an organization will be stretched to explore how different organizations can work together toward a common goal. The improvement of connectivity across healthcare organizations is a national priority for improving decision making, eliminating redundant procedures, reducing cost, and providing better care, which favors the establishment of multiprovider coordination.
