ABSTRACT

Dr. Avedis Donabedian created a conceptual model that defines how healthcare outcomes and performance can be improved. The Donabedian model helped to frame quality and performance outcomes in healthcare. Lean method is a quality improvement method focused on removing waste and unnecessary steps from processes. Lean quality management initiatives create standardized and stable processes to provide the best quality services or products as efficiently as possible. Lean uses different tools and techniques to remove waste and improve quality. Lean also requires a more traditional methodology centered around Deming's plan–do–study–act cycle. Lean helps organizations to focus on reducing waste and non-value-added activities. Six Sigma method is a quality improvement method focused on eliminating defects and reducing variability through statistical process control. Six Sigma suggests that in normal data observations, we seek to minimize the number of sigma deviations away from the mean and to reduce the number of errors in the process.
