ABSTRACT

This chapter describes an applied overview to process redesign, and outlines a very basic, reusable methodology that can be integrated with system implementation to improve the likelihood of project success and user adoption. A good project manager may have the ability to manage the system implementation life cycle, as well as managing people, issues, and risks. Collecting process details may seem like a cumbersome activity, but it is important in the case of a system implementation to understand what triggers a process, all the things that feed into the process, and the end point. The chapter provides involves improving a medical office physician charting process. Any system implementation in healthcare will have multiple stakeholders, ranging from the end customer, such as the patient, to the physicians, clinicians, unit secretaries, senior management, system users, and others. Process redesign is redesigning a process to streamline, simplify, and enhance value. Process redesign can utilize multiple methods.
