ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on whether Georgia's dynamic development in the areas of the economy and state reformation has increased the possibility of future gender equality. It explains the ongoing cultural change in Georgia towards female empowerment. The chapter explores the Georgian elite's perceptions and attitudes regarding gender equality, and conflict resolution, by contrasting them to those held by the Armenian elite. It discusses the mind-sets of the political, economic, media-related, cultural, and organisational opinion leaders of Georgia and the reference country of Armenia. Georgia has been a distinctly male-dominated society and state. Georgia is indeed in the process of developing into a safer environment for women. The political culture of the Georgian and Armenian elites differs significantly today in terms of gender equality, a finding that does indicate promise for substantial change in the future in Georgia.
