ABSTRACT
Sarala Devi was admitted to Bethune School. She recalled some of her friends in Bethune School. Lajjabati, Rajnarain Basu's daughter was in her class, was at least four years senior to Sarala. She used to travel by the school bus after the services of her family transport was withdrawn. Sarala Devi remembered some events which usually happen during her way to school. Sarala entered Bethune School at an age when they were taught from primers like Kathamala, and she left the school with a Bachelor of Arts degree at the age of seventeen. Her association with the school continued long after she left it. She recalled one particular incident. To test her proficiency in English grammar her mother asked 'Is Ganga (the river Ganges) a common or proper noun. She recalled Miss Mukherjee, who gave her a ringing slap to punish her for indiscipline sewing class. Hemaprabha, a sister of Jagadish Chandra Bose was great friend of Sarala Devi.
