ABSTRACT

The objectives of Visualizing Cities will be similar to that of Visualizing Venice: to curate and disseminate knowledge of historic and culturally significant places, using visualizations of scholarly research findings in digital formats accessible to wide-ranging audiences. The creation of new processes and codes for communicating knowledge-based visualizations assume an important role; it has become essential to make accurate and expedient analysis of large amounts of complex and variable data easily and immediately accessible. Historic structures in both Carpi and Padua experienced significant destruction, modification, and/or necessary reconstruction. Recording information about historic structures using available technologies offers a way to document cultural heritage sites and ensure that any necessary future interventions follow, as closely as possible, historical precedents. Building information modeling (BIM) is one such method. The data-driven model leads to the visual- and narrative-driven content displayed in an exhibition.
