‘Wilderness of the Civilization’: Knowledge and Perception of the Jad Pastoral Community

Western cultures see a dichotomy between themselvesand the so-called ‘Other Cultures’, a dichotomy whichwhen translated in terms of nature and culture, would mean that while Judeo-Christian religions make a distinction between nature and culture, non-Western cultures need to be examined in the light of the existence or non-existence of such a distinction, yet taking the ‘dichotomy for granted’ (Descola and Pálsson 1996: 3).
