ABSTRACT

This chapter begins by re-iterating the infinite benefits of using Intensive Interaction, the 'fundamentals of communication' and the intended outcomes of using it as a communication method. It considers ways to embark on the journey to embed Intensive Interaction into everyday life at work and especially how to implement it into a school setting as a recognised and valued communication method for pupils. The school provides education for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties, autism and severe learning difficulties. When a new school year brought a new mix of pupils, it soon became clear that one child in particular in my new class would potentially benefit immensely from Intensive Interaction – Logan. Unfortunately, as with many schools at the time of budget cuts and financial constraints, it was difficult for time to be allocated for staff or parental training in Intensive Interaction.
