ABSTRACT

Pre-secondary education in Africa could probably be defined simply as 'Home' Education. 'Home' as used here would include African communities from 'home-family' to 'home-continent'. This education begins at the age of three in the family and goes on to the age of ten in the village. The syllabus content of pre-secondary education in Africa is therefore clearly defined to include only those aspects of knowledge that are necessary for life, first in the home-family, second in the home-village, third in the home-country, fourth in the home-continent. A common practice in urban Africa is to confuse the civil service/political position with ethnicism. The consequence is that only those who have people from their ethnic group with powerful positions can easily get employment in the national labour market. The whole pre-secondary education will take eight years: three in the home school and five in the village school.
