ABSTRACT
This essay is Spielrein’s literature review for the first two decades of psychoanalysis in Russia. Writing from Geneva, Spielrein catalogues the works of Freud available in the Russian language at the time – a window into the genesis of Russian psychoanalytic thought during a period of high productivity – and offers authoritative critiques of her Russian colleagues’ theories and practices, at times also comparing psychoanalytic with other psychological approaches.
