ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book focuses on two and more examples, thereby correlating with the recent call for overcoming the empirical slant in the twin-city literature. It examines the diversity of twin cities and the variety of contemporary twin-city research. Depending on the contributors' very mixed academic backgrounds and interests, others emphasise the human dimension of twin-city relationships or their architectural evolution. The book presents emphasis on the dynamic character of twin-city relationships and their volatility. It supplements the range of instrumental attitudes to twinning. The book introduces a possible framework for the cross-national and interdisciplinary analysis of what it argues to be the twin city family. It considers an integral publication with 54 cases in 32 countries examined within one theoretical framework.
