ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the contribution of Foley and voice postproduction recordings to the creation of cinematic performances. More specifically, it focuses on voice and sounds that are performed in synchronization to the picture. It features extracts from interviews with sound professionals and reflects on how their work helps shape the performances we see on screen. We conclude that Foley and dialogue postproduction, despite being undoubtedly technological processes, are primarily creative processes, centered on human performance and human perception of sound, that play an integral part in the making of cinematic performances.
