ABSTRACT

The Apostle Paul’s ruminations regarding human recognition of God through the phenomena of creation (Romans 1:18–32) are strikingly similar to a theme that dominates much of the Qur’an: there are signs of God, revelatory hints, throughout the world. Both Paul and the Qur’an, however, qualify this revelatory optimism by bemoaning the human proclivity toward idolatry. This chapter explores these similarities in the light of ongoing Christian–Muslim discussions regarding the doctrine of sin, seeking some measure of insight from the ‘new perspective on Paul’.
